This year seems to be the worst year ever in the building industry. If care is not taken, many buildings would collapse in the nearest future.
Iron rebars don’t meet SON minimum Standards.
An inscribed 16mm iron rebars when measure is barely 14mm same as 12mm, 10mm down to the least.
Is that just it ? No! The qualities of these iron rebars are low per Volume, Tensile strength, shear value.
One who isn’t versatile enough in the industry would innocently propose Bill of Quantities thinking that things are as good as before.
Who is to blame ? Don’t this people get certification from Standard Organization of Nigeria ????
Again, The cements in the market are no longer made of Calcium oxide. 0ver 60% of the content of Cements in Nigeria are crushed clay sands. This is the reason why bonding becomes difficult after concrete mixes.
A ration of concrete that usually suppose to take 1:2:4 is now Approximately 2:3:4 making the quantity of Cament to be extravagant. Who do you blame ? The Building contractor ?
I can go on and on with ranting about the challenges we face in the building industry ever since APC, Tinubu government took over power.
