People who followed Nigerian football back in the 1990's and early 2000's would recognize this Legend who at some point wore the Green and white jersey of Nigeria.
A dependable left back who started his career back home with plateau United before his Journey to Europe in 1994 where he was signed by the Belgium heavyweights ANDERLECHT
After a stellar performance in the Belgium pro league for 3 seasons where he racked up 75 appearances scoring 8 goals, he signed a lucrative deal with Chelsea making him the first Nigerian player to play for Chelsea football club in 1997
Having left Chelsea where he managed 132 appearances with 5 goals, Babayero had stints with Newcastle united as well as LA Galaxy in the major league soccer.
Babayero's was in the team that won the 1993 FIFA under 17 world cup
He represented Nigeria at senior tournaments notably in the France 1998 FIFA world cup as well as the captain of the team that went for the 2000 summer Olympics in Sidney Australia.
He equally was in the team that participated at the Tunisia 2004 African cup of Nations.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Taoreed Lagbaja, has commissioned the remodelled Quarter Guard and unveiled the newly constructed Gatekeepers Statue at Headquarters Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps (NAIC) in Asokoro, Abuja.
The Nigeria Army shared a statement and photos on its X handle disclosing this.
Part of the statement reads: "The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja have today Wednesday 28 February 2024 commissioned the remodelled Quarter Guard and unveiled the newly constructed Gatekeepers Statue at Headquarters Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps (NAIC) in Asokoro, Abuja.
"Addressing the officers and soldiers of the Corps shortly after the commissioning ceremony, General Lagbaja expressed gratitude for their invaluable service to the Nigerian Army (NA) and the nation at large. The COAS highlighted the Corps' pivotal role in the fight against insurgency and other criminal activities through their adept intelligence gathering. He reiterated his command philosophy and urged officers and men of the Corps to continue to work hard towards its actualisation. He appreciated that personnel of the Corps go to great lengths to carry out their role and charge them to even redouble their efforts.
"Emphasizing the crucial role played by the Corps in the broader framework of national security and intelligence operations, the Army Chief noted that the role of intelligence in combating various threats facing the nation and hence must receive paramount attention. He assured the Corps of his continued support in order to sustain its role in the NA."
