March is known as the month of March, but not many people know the origin of this month. Interestingly, March is connected to the god of war called Ekwensu in Igbo culture. Both Ekwensu and March are associated with war, with Ekwensu being the god of war for the Igbo people, and March being named after Mars, the Roman god of war.

The Latin word "Martius," from which the name "March" is derived, is in honour of the Roman god of war, Mars. In the ancient Roman calendar, March was the first month and marked the start of the agricultural year and the season of war.

The introduction of March to the calendar dates back to the Roman calendar created by Romulus, the founder of Rome. Initially, March was the first month in the Roman calendar, until King Numa Pompilius added January and February. This adjustment aligned the lunar calendar with the solar year, with March retaining its status as the beginning of the year. March's significance as the third month in the modern calendar system has been solidified through various cultures and calendar reforms.
